The Inner Nest is a place to find healing, self care and self compassion through Counselling and Trauma Sensitive Yoga.

trauma-informed counselling & yoga

The Inner Nest currently offers safe and welcoming counselling sessions, trauma sensitive yoga classes and online trauma sensitive yoga classes, along with guided audio meditations, by Sydney based counsellor and yoga teacher Sonia Scali.

counselling support

Sonia’s counselling style is warm, compassionate and open-minded. Drawing on a range of therapeutic modalities, your counselling journey with Sonia will be trauma-informed and strengths-based. Tailoring her approach around your needs, Sonia creates an environment in which you can feel safe, supported and validated. Sessions are held in person or online.

trauma sensitive yoga

Group trauma sensitive yoga classes are held every Saturday. These classes provide a space where you can connect to yourself, soften the grip that experiences of grief, anxiety or trauma may have on your heart, and cultivate a space of quiet awareness and inner connection. Sonia is also available for private 1:1 trauma sensitive yoga classes.

online offerings

A selection of classes and audio meditations to practice at anytime. The classes are different lengths and some will be more active or restorative - depending on how you’re feeling and how much time you have to practice. All classes are trauma sensitive, which means that there will be options offered, so you can choose the action that feels right for you.

  • “Sonia is a skilful, warm and caring yoga teacher who aims to meet the needs of every individual in her class. With each pose, she offers alternate options for less mobile people and creates a calm and nurturing presence in the room. I’ve been coming to Sonia’s yoga classes for a year now and in spite of the busy Saturday morning drive between Bondi and Erskineville, I do it because it the best yoga I’ve found for my personal needs. It has improved my mobility and leaves me feeling refreshed and energised.”

  • “I suffer from PTSD and severe anxiety with panic attacks so I never feel calm or at peace and always very disconnected from my body. But when I’m in Sonia’s yoga class, I always feel incredibly calm. I rarely feel safe to close my eyes in front of people but when I’m in class, I follow my safe feelings and I close my eyes because it feels peaceful. It’s an incredible experience for me as I’ve not been able to feel connected to my body or feel calm in years.”

  • "I've started a regular practice over the past few months and yoga has been my saving grace. It’s provided me with purpose and an opportunity to refocus, away from anxiety and stress. It’s been a pathway back to safety and trust within my mind and my body."
